Who Runs This Site

Renovate and Plan is operated by Theo Caldwell, a renovation designer and plan strategist based in the Hudson Valley, NY. The site is served from Cloudflare’s global edge network, with no WordPress or third-party CMS behind it. All editorial content, plan reviews, and renovation studies are produced by the site owner unless a guest contribution is clearly credited. Business and privacy correspondence can be sent to contact@renovateandplan.com.

What Information This Site Collects

Most readers arrive, read an article, and leave — no account, no form, no data handed over. The site only holds information you actively give it, plus the standard technical logs a web server keeps.

Information You Provide Directly

• Contact form: your name, email address, and the message you write. Used only to reply to your inquiry.
• Comments (if enabled on an article): your name, email, optional website, and the comment text. The IP address and browser user-agent are also logged to help with spam filtering.

Information Collected Automatically

• IP address, device type, browser, operating system, and referring URL — standard server-log data.
• Pages visited, time on page, referring URL and click events — collected through Google Analytics 4, which the site uses to understand which articles actually help readers and to verify traffic for advertising partners.
• Approximate location (city / region level), derived from IP.

Information Not Collected

• No financial or payment information — nothing is sold directly on this site.
• No government-ID data.
• No precise GPS location.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files a site places on your device. This site uses three broad categories:

Essential Cookies

The site itself sets no cookie to run: there is no login, no cart and no session for readers. The only cookie the site issues is the dashboard session for its own editors when they sign in.

Analytics Cookies

Set by Google Analytics 4 to count visits, tell a returning reader from a new one and measure which articles are read through to the end. Google Analytics 4 does not store full IP addresses. What the site sees is aggregate — “1,200 people read the Beacon farmhouse renovation walkthrough this month” — never a profile of an individual reader.

Advertising Cookies

Set by our advertising partners and their approved vendors to select an advertisement, limit how often the same one is shown, measure whether it worked, and detect fraud. Where advertising is not running on a page, no advertising cookie is set. Every cookie in this category is listed by name, purpose and lifetime in the cookie policy, and none of them is set in Europe before you have chosen.

Your Privacy Choices

What is stored on your device is your decision, and you can change it at any time from the Cookie preferences link in the footer of every page.

If You Are in Europe or the United Kingdom

Readers in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked before anything beyond the strictly necessary category is set. Until you choose, advertising and analytics storage remain switched off. This is implemented with Google Consent Mode v2, which carries your decision to Google and its advertising partners: with consent denied, no advertising identifier is read or written, and measurement falls back to anonymous, cookieless signals. Withdrawing consent later is as simple as giving it, and takes effect immediately.

Global Privacy Control

This site honours the Global Privacy Control signal. If your browser or an extension sends it, advertising storage and any sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising are switched off automatically, before you interact with the page at all. In California and several other states this signal is treated as a legally binding opt-out request.

Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

We do not sell personal information for money. Under California law, and under similar laws in other states, allowing an advertising partner to set a cookie for personalised advertising can still count as “selling” or “sharing”. To stop it, use the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information link in the footer of any page, or send the Global Privacy Control signal. Neither requires an account, and neither changes what you can read here.

Google AdSense & Third-Party Advertising

Advertising on this site is supplied by Google AdSense, and may in future be supplied by another advertising management partner such as Mediavine or Raptive. This page names whoever is serving the advertising at the time. Those partners and their approved third-party vendors — including, but not limited to, the DoubleClick DART cookie — use cookies and similar technologies to serve advertisements based on your previous visits to this site and to other sites, where you have allowed it.

Advertising is kept visually separate from the writing and is labelled. We do not allow advertising formats that cover the article, that move as you read, or that imitate editorial links.

Renovate and Plan does not sell house plans, furniture, smart-home hardware, or any physical product directly. Product mentions in room guides and renovation studies are editorial recommendations drawn from real project experience; they are not paid placements unless a disclosure is included in that specific article.

Third-Party Services Used on This Site

The site relies on a small number of third-party providers to function. Each has its own privacy policy, linked below.

• Cloudflare — hosting, content delivery and email delivery for the whole site. Privacy policy
• Google Analytics 4 — readership analytics. Privacy policy
• Google AdSense — advertising. Not currently enabled; listed here because it is the network that would be used. Privacy policy
• YouTube — occasional embedded video. Privacy policy
• Pinterest — readers may pin images from the site; Pinterest handles that data directly. Privacy policy

Embedded Content From Other Sites

Articles may embed content from other websites — for example a YouTube walkthrough or a product image. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited the other site: it can set cookies, embed tracking, and monitor your interaction with it, especially if you are logged in to the relevant service.

Images & Media You Upload

If you submit an image to the site (for example, a reader project sent through the contact form), please strip embedded location data (EXIF GPS) before sending. Anyone who accesses the image can otherwise extract that location.

How Long Data Is Kept

• Contact-form messages: kept as long as needed to handle the conversation, then archived or deleted on request.
• Comments: retained indefinitely so follow-up comments from the same reader can be auto-approved. You can request deletion at any time.
• Server logs: kept by Cloudflare on its own standard schedule; this site does not store them.
• Analytics data: kept in Google Analytics 4 for the retention window set on that property (14 months by default).

If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have the right to:

• Correct inaccurate personal data
• Request deletion of your personal data

Other U.S. State Privacy Laws

Residents of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana, Delaware, Iowa, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Tennessee, Minnesota and Maryland have comparable rights: to confirm whether their personal data is processed and to access it, to correct it, to delete it, to obtain a portable copy, and to opt out of targeted advertising and of any sale of personal data. Where the law provides one, you also have the right to appeal a refusal; write to the same address and we will respond with our reasoning.

We do not knowingly process sensitive personal data, and we do not use personal data for profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

California (CCPA / CPRA)

California residents have the right to:

• Know whether personal information is sold or shared, and with whom
• Opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information
• Access, correct, or delete their personal information
• Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights

Renovate and Plan does not sell personal information for money. Use of advertising cookies may, under CPRA's broad definition, qualify as "sharing"; you can opt out using the Google Ads Settings and DAA links above, or email contact@renovateandplan.com.

Children's Privacy

Renovate and Plan is written for an adult audience interested in home design, architecture, and renovation. The site is not directed to children under 13, and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information through the contact form, email contact@renovateandplan.com and the data will be deleted.

Data Security

The site uses HTTPS across every page. Contact-form submissions are transmitted over an encrypted connection. No online system is absolutely secure, but no payment information or sensitive personal data is collected or stored on this site — limiting the scope of any incident.

Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated from time to time as the site adds or removes third-party services, or as applicable law changes. The "Last Updated" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be noted at the top of the page for at least 30 days.
